A woman from Dallas, Texas, named Margarita Sames, believes that she created the drink in 1948 for guest Tommy Hilton while vacationing in her home in Acapulco, Mexico. However, Jose Cuervo (yes, of the famous tequila brand) claimed that he had been running ad campaigns since 1945 using the catchphrase, “Margarita: It’s more than a girl’s name.”
