History of Fitzwater Station
Sitting peacefully along the Schuylkill River Canal across the river from Phoenixville in Port Providence, Fitzwater Station boasts a rich history that dates back to the 1800s when it served as a station on the underground railroad. Abel Fitzwater of Upper Providence Township, for whom the building is now named, had owned this property as part of his Fitzwater farm. His bravery during the great flood of 1839 in rescuing people stranded around river banks by wading through icy January waters will be remembered forever.
Hurricane IDA 2021 Survivor
Despite being flooded themselves, Fitzwater Station was once again at the heart of flood relief efforts after Hurricane Ida hit the area in September of 2021. A Salvation Army canteen was set up at Fitzwater Station to help feed the approximately 70 residents affected by Ida. A sign at the front door marks how high the flood water reached, requiring months of cleanup.

The Burgers, ribs and bacon wrapped jalapenos are banging. The atmosphere was relaxing and we took a walk along the canal after lunch. We had a great time and will definitely be going back.
We love the Fitz! Delicious BBQ, 1/2 priced burgers on Wednesdays, and a great atmosphere!
